Helping the Community
Claygate Lodge supports charities through both regular and one-off donations. These charities are outlined by the Master of the Lodge in his year of office and all funds raised throughout the year are donated to those charities. Some of these are shown below. There are also many charitable works carried out by the United Grand Lodge of England and the Provincial Grand Lodge of Surrey as well as a great other number of Lodges.
AN AMAZING EXPERIENCE
A hot morning in early July saw a car load of Claygate Lodge members en-route to James Terry Court at Croydon to make a presentation to the Friends of James Terry Court. We were met by Diane Collins the excellent Home Manager and a whole team of ‘Friends’ led by Barry Northmore who showed us around this fantastic home complete with a wonderful roof terrace.
Our cheque for £2500 was gratefully received and will enable the ‘friends’ to further enhance the facilities on offer to the home’s residents.

ANOTHER INSPIRING VISIT TO PRINCESS ALICE HOSPICE
A sunny morning in June saw five members of Claygate Lodge at the Princess Alice Hospice, Esher, in order to present a further cheque for £2500 in support of this very worthwhile local Charity. We were welcomed by Head of Fundraising, Mia Patterson who received the cheque on the hospice’s behalf and expressed their thanks for Claygate Lodge’s contining support, having made a number of donations over the past few years.
Having experienced the stress of giving away our money, those attending adjourned to a local garden centre for a coffee and were asked, in view of our smart attire, whether we were on our way to racing at Sandown!
CONTINUING SUPPORT FOR 4TH TOLWORTH AIR SCOUTS
Two members of the Lodge made a third annual visit to this scout group in order to present a further cheque, this time for One Thousand Pounds to further the work that they do for the youngsters in the Tolworth area. Previous donations have enabled the children to attend a PGL (Parents Get Lost) camp and this further support will go towards the purchase of new equipment for the group.
CONTINUING SUPPORT FOR SURREY 2019 FESTIVAL & NEW SUPPORT FOR RMBI EDUCATIONAL TRUST
At the May Lodge meeting, Charity Steward, Bill Slattery presented a cheque for £5,500 to our Official Visitor Colin Whitehead.
Colin was delighted to receive the cheque and offered sincere thanks on behalf of the Provincial Grand Master. He intimated how much he had enjoyed the ceremony (it looked like he didn’t have his fingers crossed) and congratulated the Lodge on our charitable works, ritual and good spirits.
